The show is so good that it deserved a much better ending. Erin Greene's monologue at the end is "I am high and I think this is deep" territory. It's just cringe. I liked Riley Flynn's earlier monologue better. Both of them, even in the face of supernatural, somehow manage to make materialist and reductionist arguments. If philosophy, dogmatism and the human condition interest you do watch it. Don't worry about the ending; "it's the journey and not the destination" and all.
Midnight Mass is a masterclass in atmospheric and ritualistic horror, trading cheap jump scares for a slow-burn descent into religious occultism. Set on the isolated Crockett Island, the show builds a thick, suffocating sense of dread that perfectly captures the terrifying intersection of blind faith and supernatural transformation. The writing is incredibly sharp, utilizing philosophical dialogue and a haunting, liturgical score to create a world that feels both grounded and deeply unsettling. A significant part of the show’s magnetic pull is the performance of Samantha Sloyan as Bev Keane. She is an exceptionally talented and beautiful actress who commands the screen with a chilling, calculated grace. Her portrayal of a religious zealot is masterfully executed, blending her striking, elegant appearance with a cold-hearted intensity that makes her one of the most memorable antagonists in modern horror. Samantha’s presence adds a sophisticated layer to the show's dark themes; she is as captivating as she is formidable, anchoring the series' most tense moments of psychological and spiritual horror. Ultimately, Midnight Mass is a flawless 10/10 achievement. It respects the intelligence of the viewer while delivering a profound, beautifully shot exploration of human frailty and the occult. For fans of top-tier acting and serious, high-stakes horror, this series is an absolute essential.
