The Starlost

I just finished this series and, well, it seemed like an interesting premise at first and had some decent people tied to it, but…well. Let’s discuss. The opening episode was a little slow—kind of par for the course where every bit of quiet space wasn’t edited out for commercials or non-stop action like shows of this (21st) century. There’s a lot of time to puzzle things out, but three uneducated folks from an agrarian society were maybe not quite the ones to be figuring this out. The music is interesting. In fact, the opening theme reminds me a bit of Rick & Morty—wondering if this was an inspiration. Sometimes the women get to do things, but it still feels pretty patriarchal. There were some episodes that reminded me of other sci-fi shows, so worth completing if you want to compare, but for the most part, this was not particularly enjoyable. Let’s get spoilery. **spoilers below** So many missed opportunities to be engaging the people they found to be supporting them along the way, to be collectively learning about the systems to provide support in the time of need. Let’s talk race too. While I understand the desire to preserve cultures over centuries of travel, I’m also sensing some segregation happening on the ship. Eh, not as progressive as it could have been.
