Do Not Feed the Pigeons

With the last bus delayed by at least half an hour, a collection of would-be passengers are sitting around in a rather grubby waiting room watching the pigeons flying around the place scavenging what they can. With all of the characters made from cardboard cut-outs, this presents us with quite an observant look at those who are waiting to go home at 2am. A lad who is very drunk; a mother with her young baby she is dosing with crisps to keep calm; some folks who have either just been or are just going on holiday - and who don't seem the most communicative; a tattooed lad taking home his caged cat and an elderly lady who is travelling across the concrete floor as fast as her legs will carry her so she can retrieve her ticket which was blown from her hand by the chilly morning wind. Then the pigeons are startled, they take flight en-masse, and somehow this act creates a sense of unity amongst those sitting as far apart as they can from each other - all whilst the cleaner tries to sweep up the floor. There's no dialogue at all, just these personalities and I really did like this stop-motion animation. The artistry and the drawings are simple yet detailed and the people they portray offer us hope that what we see - and are frequently wary of - in the wee small hours isn't neccessarily the true story. Will the old lady actually make it onto the bus in the end? This is certainly well worth ten minutes.
