Overview
愛情深い性格ゆえに、これまでの人生、ダメ男ばかりを引き寄せては、何度もだまされてきた母・肉子ちゃん。 とんでもなく豪快で、子どもみたいに純粋な母に比べて、しっかりもので大人びた性格の小学5年の娘・キクコ。 ふたりは肉子ちゃんの恋が終わるたびに各地を放浪し、北の漁港の町へと流れ着く。 漁港で途方にくれる母娘の胃を満たしたのは、一軒の焼き肉屋「うをがし」の焼肉だった。 妻に先立たれ、店をたたもうとしていた店主・サッサンは、目の前に現れた肉子ちゃんを”肉の神様”だと思い、 「決しておなかを壊さないこと」を条件に肉子ちゃんを雇いいれる。 こうして、サッサンが所有する漁港の船を住処に、肉子ちゃんとキクコの新しい生活が始まった……！ キクコは地元の小学校に転入する。土地の言葉をきちんと使い、運動神経がよく、まわりの友達から「かわいい」と 言われることが多いキクコは、大阪出身でもないのに大阪弁で思ったことをすぐ口に出し、 町中でマトリョーシカと噂される母・肉子ちゃんの存在を、最近ちょっと恥ずかしいと思っている。 一方、学校ではこの年頃特有の女子グループ間のやっかいな抗争に巻き込まれたり、 風変わりな少年・二宮との出会いで、キクコは少しずつ成長し、この漁港の町をどんどん好きになっていく。 肉子ちゃんの次の恋が終わったら、またこの町を出て行かなければならない。 そんな不安がよぎるキクコと肉子ちゃんの大きな秘密が明らかになり……

_Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko_ is so simple on the surface, but is also complex and meaningful as an animated film. The ending of the film juggles tearing at your heartstrings and having everything come full circle. It feels like Kikurin is ashamed of embracing the fact that she’s becoming a woman while Nikuko is dangerously content with her gender and sexuality. They’re both lonely, but they find solace in each other’s company. _Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko_ is an animated journey that allows its audience to feel a full spectrum of emotions throughout the escapades of Nikuko and Kikurin. Its beautiful animation is only secondary to the warmth in your chest the film leaves you with once you see that last plate served at the grill house that so many townspeople frequent.
