Overview
1930年代半ば、右派と左派の対立が激化するフランス。モンテイユ家の田舎屋敷に、パリからやって来た魅力的な女性セレスティーヌが小間使いとして雇われる。そこには、家の実権を握る妻と性的欲求不満を狩猟で紛らわす夫、妻の父で婦人靴を異常なほどに愛する老人、粗野な下男らが暮らしていた。ある日、近所で恐ろしい殺人事件が起こり……。モンテイユ家をフランス社会の縮図に見立てながら、ブルジョワ風刺と社会批評を込めて描く。

Solid. One of my favourites, both in terms of Bunuel (my 4th favourite director ever) and of Moreau. Sheer, unadulterated genius. There was never anyone quite like him and there never will be again--and that's a dirty rotten shame. Paraphrasing David Thomson, he once said that every film frame from both Renoir or Bunuel was perfectly shot. And thankfully he was accurate.
